About this guide
Pride Month is an annual month-long celebration, typically in June, dedicated to celebrating and advocating for the rights, visibility, and acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals, as well as other diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.
During this month, various events, parades, festivals, rallies, and activities are organised by LGBTQ+ communities and organisations worldwide. These events aim to create a supportive and inclusive environment, promote LGBTQ+ rights, raise awareness about the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals, and celebrate their identities, history, and culture.
“We live in a very heteronormative society. We have this certain expectation that you’ll meet a person of the opposite sex, get married, have children, and whilst we appreciate that that's not everyone's journey, the fact is that the world around us still very much gives that narrative to us.”Tash Koster-Thomas Diversity, Equity & Inclusion consultant and speaker
