This training film provides a comprehensive introduction to the UK Modern Slavery Act and what it means for businesses operating in the UK.

Tackling forced labour and human trafficking in the modern world

Modern slavery happens around the world and across a range of industries, from construction, farming and domestic work to mining, manufacturing and supplied labour.

Anti-Slavery Day was created by the Anti-Slavery Day Act, a Private Members Bill introduced by Anthony Steen CBE, now Chair of the Human Trafficking Foundation.

What the Modern Slavery Act means for your business

The Modern Slavery Act is one of the toughest pieces of anti-slavery legislation anywhere in the world, with implications for every organisation that does business in the UK. This short training film looks at the nature of modern slavery and explains the key provisions of the Act around the prevention of forced labour and human trafficking and ensuring greater supply chain transparency. Featuring interviews with industry leaders and a spotlight on the UK construction sector, the ‘Working with the Modern Slavery Act’ training film sets out what businesses need to do to comply with the law and explains the role of employees at all levels of an organisation in identifying and reporting slavery practices wherever they occur.

This training film will give a better understanding of:

  • the definition of ‘modern slavery’
  • key industries at risk, with a focus on construction
  • the main provisions of the Modern Slavery Act
  • what the Act means for organisations who do business in the UK
  • how to spot and report instances of modern slavery.
Chris Blythe OBE

Modern slavery is forced labour, at its simplest. It’s people who have no choice about what they do and are held in often intolerable conditions with the threat of violence. And it can cover many areas of activity, including sexual exploitation, worker exploitation, for example, in the agricultural industry, and of course in the context that we’re looking for, people who are used in construction products as well.
